Social Work and Human Services Paper on Tamir and Zakiyah
When the case manager arrived at the group home, Tamir was clean and had his hair neatly trimmed. Tamir is an 8-year-old male under the care of DHS for behavioral issues. Tamir wishes to connect with his family as he claims that he misses them. He said he was ready to go home but his case manager told him that he could not go home right away and Tamir said he was willing to start with overnight visits before moving back home. Though Tamir shows interest in having a healthy family relationship, he seems to have an unhealthy relationship with his brother. The last time his brother visited he accused Tamir of being selfish and they got into an argument as a result. Over summer, Tamir hopes to go to dance camp to learn dance moves as he wants to be a dancer in future. Thinking about the future in a constructive manner shows that Tamir is in a positive mental and emotional state.
Zakiyah is a 14 year old female who is receiving DHS in home services. Zakiyah shows signs of taking responsibility as she wishes to go to camp or get a job over summer. There is also evidence of a healthy parent-child relationship as Zakiyah told her case manager that her mother would be taking her to dinner when she graduates high school. In the past, Zakiyah has had a hard time maintaining a healthy relationship with her peers but that seems to be changing as she had a sleep over at her friend’s house. She seems to be in a good emotional state and is having healthy family and peer relationships. Zakiyah’s performance at school is okay but she cannot wait to be done with school and rest.
