You are required to write a research paper in this course based on a selected diverse need of your choice. You must email the instructor with your chosen topic PRIOR to beginning your paper. This assessment provides you with an opportunity to further explore needs/issues that are professionally relevant to you, as well as potentially help you to be even more effective with current or future families you work with.

Purpose
The purpose of the research paper is to apply research findings, assess family function, and suggest helpful interventions based on scholarly research. This paper will also help you gain greater information on a topic of your choosing related to supporting families and children with diverse needs.

Format
Your research paper should follow these formatting specifications:

Include 10 academic resources: Your research paper should include 10-12 academic resources that inform your answers (e.g., peer reviewed articles; government/organizational documents [called grey literature]). You will be deducted marks if your resources are not academic (e.g., random websites, Wikipedia).
Use APA formatting and referencing: For more information on APA, please visit Citation Styles and Management and refer to the librarian tutorial.
Page range: 8-10 pages in length. Title Page and Reference page are NOT included in the page count.
Line spacing: Double-spaced.

Grading Expectations
Your research paper will be graded out of 25 points. Your instructor will evaluate your research paper using the following criteria.

PART A (5 points)
Comprehensiveness of answer: Why it happens? [worth 3 points] Comprehensiveness of answer: Prevalence [worth 2 points] PART B (10 points)
Comprehensiveness of answer: Impacts – 3 themes. Each theme to be defined and discussed. [2 points each; worth 6 points total] Comprehensiveness of answer: Best Practices – 2 strategies/interventions. Each practice to be defined and discussed [2 points/strategy or intervention: worth 4 points in total].
PART C (3 points)
Concise summary of points addressed in PART B [worth 2 points] *be sure to use citations for this section.
Concluding remarks [worth 1 point] Formatting and APA (2 points)
Formatting: 12-point font; double-spaced; minimum of 10 academic references [worth 1 point] APA: in-text citations and reference section [worth 1 point] Writing (5 points)
