Sample Reflection Paper on Discipline

Discipline is the act of instilling a good behavior in people. It is vital in the life of every child. Children who are disciplined by their parents or guardians grow up to be very responsible and successful citizens. Consequently, such children pass on good behavior to other generations

When I was eight years old, my father came home with a new video game for me. I sat down to look it up on the screen with a lot of excitement. After about five minutes, mother called me to empty the trash box that lay in my room. Since I had so much exhilaration, I ignored her words and continued on playing since father had gone to his room. Few minutes later, I saw him rushing towards me, he plucked the jockey stick. Since then father banned me from playing my favorite game for three weeks. This was not an interesting experience. I felt so offended that I found it difficult to talk with my father for the rest of the day. In my view, the discipline was too severe in comparison to my disobedience.

Children should learn that discipline is a pathway to success in the future. At the same time, they should realize that it is a reflection of pure love from adults. However, when I was disciplined by a teacher at a young age, I felt like I was hated by her. I believe in a discipline that is characterized by natural consequences. Children should be left to experience the natural consequences of disobedience or deliberate misbehavior. A little penalty for indiscipline and a reward for good behavior are appropriate for young children today. Rewarding a child for appropriate work automatically encourages him or her to maintain good behavior.

In conclusion, discipline should be an essential part of every child’s life. Parents, teachers, and guardians should not compromise discipline for anything else. Simultaneously, they should use wise and fair methods in educating their children or pupils. Real discipline has to be useful, not harmful.
