Typically individuals believe that God already finished. However, the Thomistic approach of creation vastly differs from historical perception. Thomas Aquinas does not consider nature a historical fact; instead, he embraces a spiritual approach to creation. Claiming that God is in charge of all creation means that God gives life to all living things. If life originates from God thus all creatures substantially depend on God for survival and existence. Therefore, the relationship between the beings and their Maker cannot be a past reality. The metaphysical characteristic of dependency on God is the current nature of things. According to Thomas, even if the world had not begun existing, it would still be considered an example of God’s creation. Every aspect of the world, for instance, time or space would still be considered God’s creation as everything in the world originates from God, and depend on Him for sustenance. However, if human beings conclude that some species emanate from evolution through the concept of natural selection or mutation, then it implies that these species develop over time. There exists many possible ways through which molecules, elements and other living organisms develop or evolve. These organisms does not inhibit each other from depending on God, and thus all things belong to God. God therefore freely creates the world. He has no obligation to give life, yet He willingly does so.

God also created the world to reflect his features in the harmony, order, and beauty of his creation. God gives life to all creatures, and thus the relationship between Him and His creation can only be termed as a present reality. Every aspect of the world, irrespective of whether it exists or not would still be termed as Gods creation.
