Sample Psychology Paper on Psychological Effects Of Modern Technology On Children’s

Modern technology has immensely influenced the interaction and socialization of children; this has impacted their emotional and mental health. Moods, thoughts, and attention of children have been affected by the introduction of modern technology. Children behave like adults, and a significant number have become violent in the contemporary world. The issue of modern technology and its influence on children’s development has become a debatable issue. Society has a different perception of technology; some believe that technology has positively impacted children’s development while others not; there have to be a basis for why they disagree with this notion (Pempek & Lauricella, 2017).

Children who are already exposed to social media have harmed attention span. They get addicted to technology to the point that they have developed an internet approach of thinking. Gone are the days when children had to read books and participate in activities that required attention. Today’s generation cannot think or imagine as they take their projects; thus, they rely on technology for assistance (Shah et al., 2019).    Technology has denied children the ability to self-soothing, which affects their growth as they do not have the idea of controlling their emotions. Parents use phones or televisions to soothe their children, thus forgetting their consequences towards children’s development.

Technology increases aggression in children; those who play videogames have high chances of becoming too violent. Children play wrestling games; hence, they tend to develop those characters in such scenes. Children tend to argue with peers and parents and become even more violent with time. Seattle Children’s Research Institute reports that there is a correlation between technology and children’s violence. It states that such children have no empathy and always turn out violent and easily harm others without pity (Pempek & Lauricella, 2017).

Modern technology has affected the emotions of children. They lack problem-solving skills and cannot manage stress. They are always lonely because they do not interact with others. The loneliness in them prevents them from socializing and interacting with peers; hence they quickly get depressed. Modern technology is an essential tool of this generation but should be used in moderation for positive results.
