Effects of New Media

New media has revolutionized how people communicate by use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter and Instagram. These platforms have made it easy for people to connect with their families and friends on a real-time basis (Siddiqui, S., & Singh, T. 2016). Also called social media, New Media has helped people share pictures and videos, enabling communication. These have strengthened relationships and brought people together in a way that was not possible in the past.

Secondly, from marketing to interacting with customers on a timely basis, New Media has significantly impacted businesses. Online platforms are a cheaper way of companies for advertising their offerings, which can, in turn, attract a lot customers (Siddiqui, S., & Singh, T. 2016). Businesses have been able to reach a broader base of customers, which have upgraded customer’s loyalty through various programs. Easy access to business to the customer has enabled them to retain existing customers and even attract more.

Thirdly, New Media has impacts on politics where people can get information in some cases before even the mainstream media do (Akram et al., 2017). It’s the cheapest medium where people get to access political and other news. These online platforms have enabled people to express their grievances to their political leaders for actions to be taken. Online platforms are also a medium where mass political rallies are formed, and campaigns can be carried out.

Lastly, New Media has significantly impacted job recruitment, where recruiters use online platforms to post job vacancies to find competent candidates (Akram et al., 2017). Most companies make a decision based on someone’s portfolio. New Media has also made it easier for job seekers to access the opportunities; For example, platforms such as LinkedIn where one can create a profile based on their skills.
