Leadership and Policy

When reflecting on this course and the information that we have covered, I can ascertain that my attitude about administration has changed and improved significantly. In this case, I am able to perceive administration from a critical and a comprehensive point of view hence I am able to appreciate different aspects of administration which might seem like insignificant to the layman. Hence, my view of leadership and policing is changing and becoming more realistic. As such, my evaluation of my moral and legal consequences of my decision making shows that I still have a lot to learn with respect to leadership despite the fact that I have understand the potential moral and legal consequences of decision making in the school. Hence, still have to learn on the major concepts which help in making concrete leadership decisions.

In this case, when I become an administrator, I will have more avenues of learning on different aspects of administration and leadership. As such, I expect my knowledge to grow quickly since I will have on-the-field experience which is relevant to administration. In this case, my understanding of leadership and the potential moral and legal consequences of decision making in the school will change and be more realistic and encompass more understanding and experience (Hallinger, 2005). Particularly, this line of thought leads to the popular question; “What should be the purpose of education in our society?” From my perception, I think the main purpose of education in our society should be to impart relevant knowledge in individuals, help in growing them into knowledgeable people and hence equip them with knowledge and skills which can be tapped in making a carrier or entrepreneurship activities (Oakland, 2011).

However, it seems as if the current purpose of education in the contemporary society is simply geared towards achieving a certain career. This trend has led to some learners only going to school so as to receive a particular certificate so as to be able to work in a particular job market (Hallinger, 2005). As such, some courses have been highly priced in higher learning institution depending on the type of job that is encompassed by a particular course. More so, students seem to disregard any other purpose of education and hence seem to focus on the job behind an education. In this case, an administrator can “safeguard the values of democracy, equity, and diversity within the school by adhering to the set standards and observing integrity in his/her work. In this case, an administrator would be expected to implement administration duties as stipulated by the set standards without any partiality, discrimination or biasedness. Hence, the values to take into consideration include honesty, hard work, discipline, integrity and courage among other virtues (Oakland, 2011).

Lastly, the specific course cases which amazed me from Module 4 entail the court cases which seem to have a different perception on the purpose of education from the one held by most individuals. As such, these court cases were encouraging to me since we shared the same view on what education should entail. Hence I can say that this module is worth studying and people who are interested in different aspects of leadership and administration should consider taking it. The only question which I may post to my mentor is; do you think that we should change our purpose of education with the changing world and changing social economic factors in the society?
