Sample Environmental Studies Paper on The Three Gorges Dam

The Three Gorges Dam is the most massive dam structure and hydropower project in China. Its construction caused the most severe human costs in the history of water resources development (displacement of over one million people). To this end, I believe any student knows about it. Today, the dam’s relocation of people is remembered to have been a better thing than the Africville’s, which was predominantly occupied by black people experiencing many challenges, including poverty and discrimination. Furthermore, the Africville’s relocation was marred with bribery and intimidation to push the residents out of the neighborhood. The Chinese people consider the dam’s creation a worthy project because of its functions of flood control and power generation. Besides, the government followed the World Bank recommendations on displaced persons. They were adequately compensated and housed in places of higher living standards such as Shanghai. At the end of the resettlement, their material situation improved since they had access to quality education and health services
