After reviewing this week’s literature, including the articles by Arendale (2002a, 2002b), White (2008), Gelber, Stephens and Wechsler, please respond to each of the following questions. Please support your responses with references from the literature, but limit your use of direct quotations.

Arendale (2002a, 2002b), White (n.d.), Gelber, Stephens, and Wechsler discuss significant events in higher education history that have impacted the field of developmental education and developmental education students. Trace the evolution and history of developmental education in American higher education by identifying what you think are three significant events in higher education and/or developmental education that have impacted developmental education students or the developmental education field (10 points). Arendale (2002a) discussed several factors that historians have largely ignored that demonstrate the longevity of developmental education in higher education. Please identify and discuss at least three developmental education indicators/factors that historians have generally failed to discuss in American higher education history. (10 points)
