Applications Used in Class
Two of the applications I use are SpeakingPal English tutor and English Launchpad. The former uses a virtual character to listen to a student’s pronunciation, then gives feedback. The words that are pronounced well are highlighted in green while the wrong ones are highlighted in red. That way, they can know and work on the wrong ones. Therefore, the technology enables English language learners to learn faster and effectively. The use of this application ensures that teachers can profile each student, thus facilitating more effortless assistance. On the other hand, the English Launchpad application allows me to keep records of the learning progress of my students. Consequently, I can easily manage their learning. The app has many practice exercises, which are essential in testing students, and supports translation. Therefore, it allows me to identify areas each student needs to improve. In doing so, I can adjust my efforts to meet every student’s learning needs. Therefore, it a useful tool for tracking progress and learning a new language.
Successes and Challenges
Indeed, the use of technology in the classroom comes with successes and challenges. One of the positive aspects is that the use of education applications is increased efficiency in learning. Many students struggle with learning English language among other subjects, but incorporating new technology has transformed learning by making it quicker and more comfortable, which has eased the process of learning. However, the technology has its limitations. Limited budget is a hindrance to using educational technology. Education technology applications require an active subscription, which is expensive, thus needy students in my class cannot access this vital technology. Consequently, they miss out on its benefits.
