Ford relies on its PACE program to enhance its environmental and social sustainability. Therefore, transparency of the supply chain, effective management, and social engagements are the crucial components that anchor the initiatives by Ford. For that, the company has built a robust sustainable business model that has enabled it to engage in transformative endeavors. PACE was launched to reduce environmental footprint of the company’s supply chain. As highlighted in the overview, PACE was originally designed to address concerns and issues of water and energy conservation. However, the program has expanded to accommodate more than 40 suppliers in 40 different countries (Ford Company, 2017). Through PACE, Ford can potentially reduce emissions by approximately 500,000 metric tons over a period five years (Ford Company, 2017). This can be equated to the elimination of carbon emissions in more than 50,000 homes annually (Ford Company, 2017). This is a substantial contribution in regards to promoting both environmental and social sustainability. Thus, through the program, Ford will be able to meet its sustainability goals.

Ford believes in collaborating with its suppliers to meet already formulated sustainability goals. Ford aspires to make quality products that effectively minimize their impact on the environment by doings things precisely. Suppliers must positively contribute in the supply chain by sharing responsibility and collaborating with Ford to collectively reduce the environmental footprint, while delivering quality products. The collaboration entails offering toolkits and best practices guidelines to suppliers to track sustainability in regards to water, energy, gas emissions, and waste management. Further, efforts are also focused on optimizing cooling tower systems, minimizing the use of squashed air during production, and doing away with single unit cooling formations. Suppliers are also provided with experts in their facilities to further identify how to save resources during production. At the moment, it is reported that involved suppliers can save up to 550 million gallons of water in a span of 5 years (Ford Company, 2017). Besides, suppliers must adequately report their progress and accomplishments within specified periods.

To achieve environmental and social sustainability, Ford must work hand-in-hand with its customers. It is Ford’s responsibility to improve on fuel economy across their product line. Ford has achieved the goal as it provides customers with products that are consistent with environmental regulatory in terms of climate stabilization. Further, Ford has considerably reduced the weight of their car brands to align with their mission to reduce fuel economy. In return, customers are expected to be environmentally conscious as they use products delivered by the company. Ford believes that the noble initiative of protecting the environmental while establishing long-term social relationships with its customers is based on mutual understanding. Ford develops networks through which customers can provide feedback on the impacts of the Ford’s products to the environment, and then the company responds by correcting anomalies that are likely to affect sustainability. These efforts have been effective in reducing emissions, saving on fuel, and thus, promote sustainability.

From the overview, the Ford Company engages the Global Reporting metric that aligns to globally applicable environmental protection procedures. On record, Ford has developed own goals and how programs such as PACE are geared towards their accomplishment. Data for the metric can be collected from global environmental bodies such as ENEP. This metric is chosen by Ford due to the difficulty experienced in measuring single environmental conservation contribution. Besides, Ford measures the commitment of its entire supply chain players towards its agenda of achieving environmental and social sustainability.
