The article focuses on prostitution between local Thailand women and foreign men in Bangkok. It proposes that the act does not undermine women’s values, but rather, it is a function of these values. Women feel the need to provide for their parents, and they use prostitution as a way of exerting power over men and discovering their self-identities. Thailand women regard prostitution as their profession as it offers them financial stability. Women are in power in these setups since they “use reciprocity and personalized relationships to negotiate to their own advantage the commodification of their bodies and the meaning of their relationships with Western men” (23). This contributes significant insight regarding the nature of female prostitution with foreigners in Thailand.
Askew uses several reference materials to support his study. This enhances the credibility of his analysis as it draws upon existing resources. He also recognizes gaps in the study and endeavours to bridge the gap through practical research on the participants from Bangkok bars. Askew’s study is relevant to my research as it addresses the main topics of my research. For instance, the study is based in Bangkok, and it focuses on commercial sex workers and foreign men. This covers my two major topics, that is, prostitution and tourism. It especially offers insight into the causes of high prevalence of female prostitution in Bangkok, Thailand. The source is useful for any scholar looking for information regarding female prostitution since it highlights the major points efficiently, and supports its ideas in a scholarly manner.
Chamratrithirong and Kaiser offer insight into the health impact of sex with regular or casual sex partners. The study analyses statistics concerning “condom use among heterosexual Thai males in sex relations with regular partners and in sex with casual partners (1).” It highlights factors that influence condom use in Thailand as noted through the participants of the study conducted on Thailand men. These include the socioeconomic status of the men, their marital status, the nature of their romantic relationships, education, income and employment status, and condom knowledge. The study also relates condom use to the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS and related sexually transmitted diseases. According to the authors, condom use among sex workers is high because the workers embraced the 100% Condom Use program instituted by the government. On the other hand, regular and casual partnerships do not feel the need to use condoms because they only worry about contraception, and this is taken care of through contraceptive options. This article also offers an in-depth analysis that exposes the reality of condom use among Thailand men. It contributes an important factor to my research. Apparently, lack of condom use is more prevalent among casual and regular sex partners than it is among commercial sex workers. This implies that Thailand’s commercial sex workers are relatively at a lower risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases than their counterparts are. This positive observation will form the basis of my research as I analyze the health consequences of Bangkok’s commercial sex workers both globally and locally. The data used in the study is credible, making it easier to accept the conclusions and recommendations drawn from the study. Further, the article is accessible online through open access, making it available to all online users interested in Thailand’s condom use statistics.

The rate of tourism has increased in different parts of the world. Therefore, the tourism industry has a significant effect on world economies. The book, Principles of Tourism Management, by Johanna Muller, covers the different theories and concepts that the tourism sector uses in regards to management. The book covers different tourism topics such as sustainable tourism, cultural tourism and factors (both economic and non-economic) that affect tourism. Johanna Muller has discussed the issues that surround tourism management in the book. The book has a total of 214 pages that discuss the fundamentals of tourism management. Johanna Muller is an excellent prolific with diverse knowledge and experience in the tourism sector. She has written other books such as Tourism Management, Modern Hospitality and Tourism Management and Corrosion Des Bronzes Cu-Sn En Milieu Sulfate. The main aim of the text within the book is to use various case studies to provide readers with a worldwide view of book topic. Also, the book is an excellent source of information for academic professionals, students, and individuals who work within the industry.
Tourism management refers to a wide array of activities that are significant to the tourism industry. The book provides an excellent discussion of factors that affect the management of tourism such as sustainable tourism. Tourism management comprises of different activities that affect the tourism industries. Muller applies an interdisciplinary approach to discuss the various principles such as policies and planning. The book uses different case studies to engage the reader in international, national and regional factors that affect tourism. The demand for hospitality and travel has facilitated the growth of tourism. Some countries rely on tourism as the main source of foreign income. Therefore, efficient management of the sector is mandatory. Johanna uses the book to help people understand how different economies can improve tourism outcomes.

Tourism growth involves a lot of environmental activities that can put a strain on the natural environment. Muller agrees that the development of tourism is the primary cause of environmental degradation in most countries that support tourism. Environmental degradation prevents tourism growth. Examples of environmental protection methods that tourism managers can use include the use of energy saving bulbs in hotels, use of eco-friendly detergents and water saving initiatives. Furthermore, tourism managers need to develop awareness programs that inform the public about the need for environmental protection. The main idea is to minimize the negative impacts of tourism.

Therefore, students, tutors, and individuals working in the tourism sector need to read Muller’s book because of the practicability of the case studies. Also, different tourism companies can use the book to make important decisions about the need to promote tourism. Furthermore, Muller discusses the economic and non-economic factors that affect tourism. For example, the global financial crisis of 2008 reduced tourism activities. Business leaders in the tourism sector should make policies in regards to economic factors like a recession. Furthermore, Muller mentions noneconomic factors like political stability to be significant that affects tourism. A tourism business leader reading Muller’s book will understand the different factors that affect tourism and in turn, make important decisions related to the same to prevent losses.
The importance of marketing is another topic of importance in the book. Marketing is an integral part of tourism management because it is how tourists become aware of possible destinations. However, tourism destinations should embrace proper marketing tools and channels to increase traffic. Many countries depend on tourism for foreign currency. Tourism growth is, therefore, a necessary aspect of many world economies. However, it is important to incorporate old and new marketing strategies to promote growth. For example, the use of the internet through social media sites has provided businesses a new avenue for marketing. Therefore, businesses in the tourism sector should remain competitive by employing new marketing techniques like the use of social media sites to promote growth.
In conclusion, Muller’s Principles of Tourism Management book is a good educational tool for students, tourism leaders, and educators. The use of innovative case studies within the text is important for giving readers an idea of how the principles apply in the real world. Therefore, Muller does a commendable job in explaining the principles of effective tourism management. All respective stakeholders in the tourism sector should read the book.
