The rate of cybercrime has increased in the global scale. This is due to the advancement in the information technology whereby public and private organizations are using information technology to offer services to clients (Brenner & Ebrary, 2010; Latta, 2012). The risk of cyber-attacks on websites is more prominent in the digital age. Although there has been investment in technology that helps to prevent cybercrime, the hackers are also advancing their techniques. This continues to pose as a threat to corporate websites, especially corporations with low protection strategies against cybercrime. According to Latta (2012), the government websites have not been spared in the cybercrime activities. The government websites also contain crucial information, which may have financial gains to the hackers. Therefore, governments cannot ignore cybercrime activities in the country. There is a need for collaboration between government and private organizations to help in mitigating cybercrime, which pose a threat to both public and private institutions (Latta, 2012).The Oman government is one of the most targeted websites by hackers from different countries. This is because of low security measures undertaken to protect websites from cybercrime activities. According to KPMG International (2011), in 2010, Oman was ranked fourth globally behind South Africa, UK, and Spain among the most targeted sites by MessageLabs Services. There are different methods of carrying out cybercrime such as using viruses, worms, Trojans, spam emails, scareware, and malware among others (Brenner & Ebrary, 2010; Latta, 2012).
It is unethical to hack websites to present grievances for poor services offered by the company. Dr. Darkness hacked into a government website owned by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in a protest for poor services offered by the organization (Staff Report, 2014). Although Dr. DarknesS may be justified since he might be angered by poor services from the company, hacking into the website is an unethical method of presenting his complaints. The public should be educated that unethical activities such as hacking websites may cause destruction of existing infrastructure thereby worsening the current situation. The result of these strategies is public awareness on the existing channels of communications within the organization and outside the organization structure.
Cybercrime activities may have drastic negative impacts such as loss of money and information (Latta, 2012). Since there has been an increase in cybercrime activities globally, the government needs to upgrade the existing security measures to prevent hacking. According to Latta (2012), the government has a responsibility of protecting the people against all threats that may cause physical, social, mental or intellectual damage. This will help in maintaining the confidentiality of information and probable theft activities conducted through cybercrime activities. The government should also encourage the private sector to modern security strategies to prevent cybercrime activities (United States, Government Accountability Office, 2008). Furthermore, the government should develop the necessary security infrastructures for mitigating cybercrime activities (United States, Government Accountability Office, 2008).
Since cybercrime is an illegal activity, the perpetrators of cybercrime should be arrested and prosecuted in a court of law (Wall, 2008). The guilty suspects should be jailed to prevent further spread of cybercrime criminal activities. This strategy will inform other cybercrime perpetrators that they will be jailed if they continue with illegal activities. When there is emphasis on morality in the society, this will help in awakening the consciousness of society regarding unethical activities. Thus, people will not engage in unethical activities such as cybercrime, which pose a threat to public confidential information.

When appropriate strategies are used to present complaints, this shows the activists appreciates the outlined channels of communication in an organization. This also shows there is respect for the organization management and laws by the government. The code of ethics for IT requires IT professionals to respect IT resources. In this case, the IT professional should not misuse, vandalize, circumvent or use IT resources for personal benefits (Reynolds, 2014). However, when the outlined communication channels are not functional, this violates the rights of consumers to access better services. This is because the customers have a right to be heard regardless of the weight of their complaints. The implementation of security measures and policies upholds the rights of citizens by protecting their information from hackers (Wall, 2008). The punishment of cybercrime perpetrators may violate the rights of people mistaken to be hackers. The emphasis on morality upholds the societal values and encourages proper behavior.
The complainants have a right to be heard by the management of the TRA. However, the presentation of the complaints should be done through the outlined channels of communication. is the best option for long-term solution to cybercrime activities. This is
because it may take long time to implement appropriate security infrastructure

Should Euthanasia or Physician-Assisted Suicide Be Legal?
Euthanasia is an aspect that has posed great ethical concern among different groups of people including religions, tribes, organizations and communities (Yuen, 1992). Euthanasia is a terminology that is used to refer to the action of terminating very sick person’s life so as to relieve them from pain and suffering (Barbuzzi, 2014). This is normally done through lethal injection or through suspension of necessary medical support in order to compel the sick person to die faster. Religions have differed greatly on the condition where a person can be given the responsibility to terminate the life of another person on the grounds of “mercy killing” (Coggon, 2013). The word itself is a oxymoron because killing and mercy are two things that do not share a common ground.
Religions like Christianity and Muslim do not support the idea of terminating a person’s life through “mercy killing” (Coggon, 2013). The Koran and Biblical perspective about a person’s life does not give human being a mandate to terminate another person on whatever ground. Life is considered sacred and a gift from God and He is the only one who can be responsible for its termination (Jackson, 2013).
This issue therefore poses a great ethical dilemma on the direction which is most appropriate and suitable to the society (Breitbart et al, 2000). In some situation, patients may be in a critical health condition that may subject them to painful torture (Emanuel et al, 1996). Some diseases like aids and cancer lacks appropriate medication that can assure person’s recovery. In the terminal stages of these diseases, a person is subjected to painful condition with very little probability of recovery. This leaves the relatives of the affected person with difficult decision to make. They can sign for euthanasia in order to relieve the sick or they can let him/her die by the mercies of the disease. Therefore, this aspect poses a great ethical dilemma to the society.

Ethical theories are widely applied in the criminal justice system where they serve various purposes. According to Spurgeon, Dennis and Chipman (1999), an ethical theory serves two purposes. First is to provide a rational justification of the fundamental moral principles or rules usually manifested in moral judgement. Secondly, is to help “resolve any conflict that might occur between two or more equally binding moral rules and principles” (p. 31). In this essay, we are more interested in ethical egoism, its critique, and application in the criminal justice system.
Ethical egoism supports the normative ethical perspective that moral agents should perform actions that fulfil their individual interests. In this respect, ethical egoism varies from psychological egoism because the latter hinges on the ethical position that the only way an individual can act is based on his/her individual interests. In addition, because rational egoism assumes that an individual acting in his/her self-interest is the rational thing to do, it thus also differs from ethical egoism. Nonetheless, it is important to note that ethical egoism does not support actions of moral agents who might be inclined to harm the well-being and interests of others when engaged in moral discussions.
There are four key criticisms of ethical egoism worth of consideration. One of these criticisms argues that owing to the unconvincing nature of ethical egoism, its serious proponents only root for it do so to the detriment of redefining their ‘self-interest’ in an attempt to accommodate the interests of others (Burgess-Jackson, 2013). Hinman (2010) has also criticised ethical egoism on grounds that it indulges in greed, not to mention that it does not show concern for spirituality, as manifested by a person’s submersion in greed. Thirdly, ethical egoism has been criticised for its inability to provide sufficient resolution to human conflicts. As a matter of fact, ethical egoism has been accused of spawning conflicts of interest, as opposed to resolving them. Parfit (1984) has also pointed ethical egoisms and criticised it for what he calls inherently untenable state.
Ethical Egoism and the Criminal Justice System
The criminal justice system is largely regulated by ethics in such activities as defining criminal activity, in the development and application of moral reasoning, as well as interpreting what the society regards as acceptable punishment (Spurgeon Hall, Dennis & Chipman, 2000). Having established that ethical egoism entails the actions of individuals who are out to fulfil their self-interests, it is also important to note that ethical egoism could as well enable us to fee a certain level of satisfaction. Since an individual would regard going jail as a bad action, they would thus be more motivated to pursue self-interest and would thus not engage in activities that are likely to lead them to jail, such as stealing. On the other hand, should the individual consider being incarcerated as the lesser evil, this could lead to conflict of interests.

The overall respect for democracy, freedom, and human rights is one of the essential principles in any business. The three create an effective framework for the operations of companies and prerequisite success and growth. The paper was published on Sunday, August 20th, 2017 by the Inquirer newspaper. The author notes that San Miguel Corporation had donated a total of P1 billion to boost in the relief efforts that the government has effected to ensure that they curb the drug addiction among its citizens. Moreover, the amount donated was historically cited as one of the biggest assistance the Philippines government has ever received from any business organization. The diversified conglomerate stated that the amount was meant for building rehabilitation centers and other related facilities as part of the campaign by President Duterte in fighting illegal drugs (Lucas 2017, p.1).
The author demonstrates that peace and order are essential components in ensuring that the company progresses economically across the state. In any business setting, the move by SMC will be seen as a corporate social responsibility since it advocates for uniform development in both the firm and the surrounding community. According to Servaes and Tamayo (2013, p. 1059), CSR is a concept that develops a mutual relationship between global corporations, citizens, and governments of that particular country. In a local setting, CSR is concerned with building the connection between a company and the local community in which it resides or operates. Öberseder, Schlegelmilch, Murphy, and Gruber, (2014, p.113), on the other hand, defines CSR as going beyond the economic functions and legal requirements set for any business.
Understanding the corporate social responsibilities of a company requires conducting of a feasibility study on the wants and preferences of their customers. Additionally, the management needs to understand the dynamics of the market and how their competitors operate. Some of the mega trends in business include technological breakthrough, demographic and sociological change, rapid urbanization, the shift in economic power, and climatic changes (Servaes and Tamayo 2013, p. 1062). All these factors have a direct impact to both the activities of the company and to that of the customers. The social responsibility adopted by an organization must also be in line with the mission and the strategy adopted by the company. This will enable creation of a common operational language across the sectors. The management of the company should also create a good relationship management program to enable it understand the tastes and preferences of their clients.
Notably, other different names have been used to describe CSR including corporate citizenship, social responsibility, and strategic philanthropy. As the names perceive, the business including SMC carries with it particular perspectives on the role that companies owe to the society. With a net worth of P1.3 trillion and revenue of P329 billion in the first half of the financial year 2016- 2017, the conglomerate had initially donated P500 million for different housing projects in Iligan city and Cagayan de Oro, and another P500 million for a similar project in Leyte (Lucas 2017, p.1). Conversely, the president of the corporation states that the most effective method of fighting illegal drugs is through the building of rehabilitation centers to enable secure provision and accessing of drugs by the dependents. Further, it provides a chance to restore the lives of drug addicts and help them to become part of a developing society once again. Onkila (2013 p.223) notes that, through the adopting of the corporate social responsibility principles, the organization will be able to refrain from other undesired characteristics including pollution.
The Virtue Ethics Theory
The method provides an approach that emphasizes on individual or organization characters as an essential element in ensuring ethical thinking rather than the rules about the acts and their consequences. Virtue, as defined by the theory, entails the favorite characters in the business including the courage to engage in activities that other firms refrain from engaging in (Valentine 2015, p.6). Moreover, moral behavior in any enterprise is not limited to the guidelines set by the management but rather involves the company pursuing moral excellence as one of the objectives it has set. According to Aristotelian, the founder of the theory, a virtuous agent in business is involved in a continual quest that aims at balancing ethical decision making and profiteering the company. He further adds that such an agent does not need to apply the rules set in the industry but rather attempts to make decisions that are consistent with the wants of the pursuant, which may include exercising of sound moral judgments, courage, wisdom, consistency, and integrity (Lucas 2017, p.1). Moreover, Valentine (2015, p.7) states that moral virtue is a habit that once a business adopts, it will win the loyalty of its customers.
Although the theory gives an overview of how ethics in companies helps in achievement of CSR, it has been criticized by different scholars on different grounds. Rangan, Chase, and Karim (2012) assert that morality involves interaction between the company and its customers, while virtue ethics concentrates on self-development of personal character and flourishing. The initiative by SMC is based on the restoration of society morals and reduction of unethical behavior in the Philippines. Although the article provides an elaborate strategy adopted by both the company and the government, it fails to provide the extent of the drug menace in the Philippines society. The author provides the monetary part of the deal and fails to present the effects of the organization’s activities to the community. It is, therefore, important for the article to include the opinion of customers who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the project. Additionally, he fails to give an insight of the contribution of the government to the entire project. As the highest authority of the land, the government ought to have put in place measures that limit drug abuse among its citizens.
Corporate social responsibility is an essential part of the business since it ensures proper understanding between companies and the community. Companies can achieve this in different ways including utilization of available natural resources, engaging in healthy competition with other players in the market, creation of employment, and transformation of the landscape. The move by San Miguel Corporation presents a larger picture of the extensive role played by the business sector that ensures uniform growth of both the company and the immediate community. In the long run, the company will create a wider market for its commodities and increase its competitiveness both in the local and international markets. Additionally, the rehabilitated individuals will act as marketing agents for the company thus reducing the cost of advertising the company’s products.
