Bill Gates is the founder of one of the most successful companies in the world, Microsoft. Today he is known as one of the richest people, who is also a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Bower Award for Business Leadership, Distinguished Fellow of the British Computer Society, and National Medal of Technology and Innovation. His abilities to envisage and strategize make it easy for others to follow him. Bill Gates, besides being a philanthropist, is a logical, critical, and objective person (Bel, 2010). He is a man of vision, strategy, and empathy and with a caring attitude who is able to challenge and influence others (Nelson & Quick, 2013). All his accomplishments make him an example to follow for younger generations and a person to respect for the whole world.
Bill Gate’s vision motivated him to pursue the establishment of a graphical interface that became Microsoft software (Bel, 2010). His ability to recognize a potential for growth and opportunity combined with the art of giving to humanity enabled him to come up with charitable organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Furthermore, Bill Gates is respected and admired for his great leadership qualities that were reflected on his company’s excellent performance in the business world. His leadership trait is viewed in form of three major styles: autocratic, participatory, and delegate(Nelson & Quick, 2013). He is also renowned for being authoritative with the primary goal of ensuring that each employee attains their work objectives which would eventually culminate towards achieving the company’s set goals. Even though many viewed him as being quite demanding, Bill Gates encouraged his employees to be innovative and creative. As a result, most of the employees were motivated to learn and hone their skills in a bid to provide innovative solutions that would help the organization soar higher in terms of productivity, success, and profitability.
A charismatic leader is described as one who is able to instill a sense of value, respect, and pride to his followers with the primary intent of ensuring they all perform with the key objective of attaining a common vision (Nelson & Quick, 2013). Charisma plays a pivotal role in transformational leadership. Bill Gates is considered as a charismatic leader whose vision was to transform the society with an appropriate form of technology. As a charismatic leader, he aimed at inspiring and motivating people to attain the best performance in their undertakings. He employed both charismatic and transformational leadership styles by motivating his followers to have an interest in working for the development and profitability of the entire organization at large (Bel, 2010). In other words, it is fair to state that Bill Gates is one of the greatest leaders for people all over the world to respect and follow as a successful businessman in a fast-changing technology sphere.
